inkdick: september 03 2008 - republicans are assholes
I KNOW you have to attack the other side during an election year, and sometimes that means being slightly negative towards the other side. My side does it, the Republicans do it, we are all guilty of it. But… this RNC was unbearably negative! From what I saw tonight, it was filled with spewing HATE! I thought the neo-con Republican party of the Bush era was soon to be a thing of the past and the party would stop being jerks. I was wrong. Dead wrong.
I watched Giuliani’s and Palin’s speeches, and good gravy. HATE FILLED! I “love” how Giuliani had the audience BOOING every time he mentioned Obama and made fun of anyone who wants to be a community organizer and help their community become a better place. From what I saw at the DNC nobody BOOED. That is just in poor taste. And Giuliani calling the kettle black on Obama being too “cosmopolitan”. In case you forgot, Giuliani, you were the mayor of NEW YORK CITY. That’s as cosmopolitan as it gets buddy. And don’t even get me STARTED on the hate in Palin’s speech.
There is always going to be hate and hate filled things said between the two parties, but that is done in the blogs and in YouTube comments, places that don’t really matter. These kind of actions are NOT ok at a national convention for your party. Outright booing someone and mocking them for their years of community service is NOT taking the high-road and it just makes you look like a jerk. It is the asshole bully attitude that we have had to put up with for the past eight years. As much as I don’t agree with your views I thought you were better than this, Republican Party. I guess I have egg on my face now.
From what I saw at the DNC, yes, we attacked and we made jokes (flipflops and kitchen tables) but I never heard anyone BOO or chant “zero zero zero” or mock McCain’s years of serving this country. In fact in Obama’s speech, he praised McCain for his years of brave military service and reached out his hand to the other side.
But I guess this is how the Republicans want to be seen as. Jerks. Assholes. Hate filled. So I say let the chips fall where they may. I hope come November you guys eat your actions when our side wins by a landslide because we as a country decided we are done being negative and hateful and want a change that will actually matter. I hope in November WE win. And then I hope in January when Obama takes office we can put all of this behind us, forget about parties, and start working together to repair this country.

I remember watching Guiliani’s speech at a friend’s house, and as a person from NY, it’s just kind of funny to hear him talk about being a leader….
…especially when I’ve got more leadership potential in my left testicle.
(Also, HAY MAN :D)

Seeing this comic makes me glad that I wasn’t crazy in 08! Living in Tennessee is hell when you support someone like Obama (black, democrat, not-bush)
I would honestly look back on the day and just feel sad for my country, that all this hate is brewing over a man who just wants to help. :(
