inkdick: october 05 2008 - spx: day two
Day two of SPX, and I finally got to walk the floor. Man alive did I pick up a metric shit ton of good minis and books. Not as much as last year in terms of volume, but still a metric shit ton. Too many to list here all at once. I’m toying with the idea of once a week reviewing a mini in the main blog. Is this something you’d be interested in reading? Let me know, and I might just do it.
Had a post-SPX dinner with Chris Schweizer, Josh P.M. Frees, Brett, Carl, Kevin Singles, Wheeler, and new friends B.T., Anthony who does Nedroid, and Flynn. That’s Schweizer above eating the octopus whole. Oh, and be sure to check out his graphic novel Crogan’s Vengeance which was put out by Oni. In the middle of reading it right now, and so far it is great. It was a very good end to a very good convention.
Big thanks to my table mates this year, Kevin Singles and Falynn Koch. Good job, team!
SPX was just so good this year, I met so many new people, caught up with many old friends, and got a whole box full of new minis and books to keep me busy and inspired for a long time. I had a blast tabling for the first time ever at a con, and I can’t wait to do it again and again and again. This weekend I felt like I took the next step to being the great cartoonist I want to be. I still have many more steps to go, but this weekend was a giant step that took me into the right direction. SPX every year recharges me, reminds me why I love comics. Thank you all for inspiring me once again this year.
SPX ending was sad, as always, but it means I’m a year away from SPX ‘09! I gotta get back to work! And save up money for a table.

this was your first time tabling? no wonder i could never find you at fluke!

oh, i table at Fluke, I just don’t consider it tabling as it’s not a big con. I look at Fluke as more of a festival of a bunch of awesome cartoonists in a bar selling/trading their comics. But if we are to include Fluke as tabling then I guess this is technically my fourth time tabling, but still my first time for SPX. Or actually sixth time if you were to count the small zine fairs we put together here at SCAD the last two years.

so maybe the first time you’ve paid for a table? the only con i’ve paid for a table was zineapalooza, and last year the tables were like $10, and i still didn’t break even.
