inkdick: october 15 2008 - this drunk american life

So we made the list, and almost none of it was being said at the debates. No “Mavericks” from McCain and no “What my opponent doesn’t understand…” from Obama. So we made the mistake of putting “financial crisis” and ‘Joe the Plumber” on the list. I got near-drunk as you could probably guess from watching the debates.

Bob Schieffer was a fucking GREAT moderator for this debate and asked the best questions out of any of the past debates. I’m glad that he asked both candidates about the negativity of their campaigns and about McCain’s supporters yelling things like “terrorist” and “kill him.” And Obama’s response was a thing of beauty.

Obama knocked it out of the park on the topic of Bill Ayers. He explained the FULL extent of his relationship with him. Yet RIGHT AFTER HE SAID THAT, the only thing McCain could fight back with was “Yeah, well…we still need to know the FULL relationship with that man.” He just told you! You can’t run a campaign on nothing but talking points, McCain.

And oh lordy, McCain’s bullshit about abortion. First off, he kept saying “pro-abortion’. Let me make one thing clear, NO ONE is PRO abortion. Pro-choice folks aren’t running around screaming “Abortions for everyone! YAY!” No, abortion is a terrible, terrible thing, but pro-choice people want it to be there as an option that a woman has the right to choose if she so wants. It is there as a final option if needed. Pro-choice people are also for proper sex education (because the Republican backed abstinence-only sex ed is a fucking joke) and birth control so we don’t have to have abortions. So stop calling it Pro-Abortion, McCain. Here in America we call it Pro-Choice. And the final nail in the coffin for this debate and hopefully the McCain campaign: Putting down the whole health of the mother issue and almost mocking it. Congrats, McCain. You just lost any undecided voter who might have voted for you in three weeks. You probably lost a sizable chunk of your women supporters too. You just lost this election. So I guess as an Obama supporter, I have to thank you for messing up so bad tonight. Thanks, dude!

Ugh, politics. I love them but they anger up the blood! Ok, so on November 4th, I will be drinking no matter what. If Obama wins, I will drink to forget about the last eight years and start looking forward to the future. If McCain wins (please God no), I will drink to forget the last eight years and then drink so I’ll be constantly drunk for the next four.

You know how upset I get about this particular issue, but I am still just in awe that he even said the words “pro-abortion.” If anyone would be pro-abortion, it would probably be McCain. He seems like the type to gleefully kill babies and you know, eat their flesh….all the while calling himself a maverick.

yeah, i was getting mad at mccain several times during the debate. obama would say something, then 3 seconds later mccain would say obama believes the opposite. i was like “is he deaf or just crazy?”
the pro-abortion thing is so crazy too. i don’t understand how anyone who claims to be pro-life could support mccain. obama is the only one with a real plan to reduce the number of abortions. mccain just gives the issue lip service to appease the conservative base. and how could someone claim to be pro-life and support the war? they need to call themselves either anti-choice or pro-fetus.

I just saw the entire debate. Man, these debates are pretty fun. I can see who they are intending to reach, it’s a vision of divided America with its various degrees of knowledge and concerns. Obama played the clear factual game, McCain kept sticking to a few slogans. With this, McCain won’t increase voters, he’ll just have the same old ones. And meanwhile, America as a federal republic needs to be reformed from its fundament. America is divided from its foundation. If 40% are the free enterprising or judeo-christian type, and the other 40% are the fair chance / law & family/friends is the value types, then American politics is dictated by the swing 20%. Basically amounts to a federation of 2 leagues of country, united by a voting system determined by the minority swingers.

Oh, and at this point, I’d vote Obama. Growing up in Europe, Obama’s ideas are common. McCain is so “American”, which is legit for America.

I’m worried about Obama’s foreign policy though. Pulling out of a divided Iraq and putting more money in tribal Afghanistan, and toughening attacks on the terrorists in the Afghan-Pakistani border area… Diplomatic problems are too often reduced to matter of economics and military, with over-expectation on the democratic process.

I hope Obama won’t end up negated like Clinton:

Obama’s continental state economics sounds fine enough in a time of economic crisis, but once that’s over, will he revert back to the “usual” American state economy?

I guess the best choice is to be born in Europe, and succeed enough to have a home in the States also. Then you’d have a good social security, and also free enterprising opportunity, hehe.

As awkwardly as it may seem, having a double standard social security system sounds very reasonable, and yet, it’s so hard to maintain. Scandinavia seems to work thanks to a controllably low population alongside their culture of correctness, or something. Tough challenges…

I’m not living through the presidential ad campaign like most Americans, but just looking at the articles popping here and there, I can see both sides giving each other exaggerated or twisted accusations, playing with images, and avoiding the essence of many of the heavy problems.

Obama’s claim of benefit cuts suspect

I got a ticket to the John McCain rally here in Toledo tomorrow at noon-o-clock. Dare me to yell “STRING UP THE MUSLIM AT THE OLD HICKORY TREE?”

(crowd): BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO USA USA USA USA
