inkdick: october 26 2008 - nevermind then

So I’ve been trying to get a job since the summer and have been applying places. Not as many places as I should be, but I’m still applying. I REALLY wanted to get a job at Barnes and Noble. How cool would it be to work in a bookstore? And they pay really well and have awesome benefits. I submitted an application when they were super desperate for people yet they never called me back. Ever. I guess I wasn’t good enough to work for them. Whatever.

Recently they were looking for cafe servers in their in-store Starbucks. I don’t want to do food service, but I thought, what the hell? It’s still an awesome atmosphere. So I applied a second time there. And then the above happened a week later. Because I’ll be gone three days before and after Christmas, they don’t want to hire me. Fuck that. They said they’ll keep my application if they still need people after the holidays, but I’m not holding my breath. And I BETTER have a fucking job well before the holidays are over.

That sucks man, I am going to be out of work soon at the zoo cause it closes for the winter, and it is too hard to balance work and school for me. I wish you better luck with the job hunt.

Oh by the way I really like your comic. I just started reading it (and have read every single one now), it’s really well put together. I think journal comics are some of the coolest things ever. So good job.

Or… you say you’ll be able to work… work a few weeks there while you search for another job… then bail for the holidays. It’s win win. Both wins for you.

Honestly, never be honest about future plans when trying to get a job. I’d never get hired anywhere except for day labor if I was that honest.

Have you tried any local bookstores? I know they don’t hire as many people, but I know there’s at least two local, independent bookstores. The Book Lady (next to Home Run) is awesome, and there’s E Shaver’s somewhere around Bull St.

Those guys are pretty smalltime, so they dont actively look for help, sadly. I’ve checked :\

But really, I doubt there are many jobs cool with anyone taking off during the holidays, especially the season help.
