inkdick: november 08 2008 - one headlight (or none, in this case)

So yeah, I drove a few blocks without my headlights on at night. This was my bad. I was sitting outside of Norris Hall waiting for Wheeler listening to the car radio and turned my lights off to save energy and whathaveyou. He gets in the car and I forget to turn them back on as we drive off. This is my bad. I fully accept my guilt and will pay the fine that I now have to pay.

However, this cop was sort of a jerk to me. He wasn’t calling me names or abusing his power too much, but he had a horrible attitude. He seemed to be treating me like I was the scum of the Earth or something. When he pulled me over I was very apologetic for what I had done and very cooperative with him. I mean, I’m not going to start shit with a cop. They carry GUNS! So I’ll play ball and be chill.

Now I don’t know why he was being a jerk. Maybe he was having a bad day. Maybe he hates his job. Maybe this is part of the prejudice local cops have towards SCAD kids that I keep hearing so much about. Whatever the case, this guy was sort of a jerk. Not because he gave me a ticket (which I deserved for doing something stupid by accident) but because of his pissy attitude.

It made me feel like shit for the rest of the night. So screw YOU, jerk cop.

No no no no. No. Cops are like dogs, man. They can smell fear and won’t respect you until you show them who’s boss. Make sure you keep a rolled up newspaper in the seat next to you from now on in case this happens again.

Well, I can help you here. If you drove more than 200 yards without lights in the dark, then you’re guilty. If not, then the judge will let you off. Be sure to go to court. You can ask the officer (politely), if he was in front of your vehicle at the time of the incident. Otherwise, he won’t be able to prove that you were without lights for more than 3200 yrds. In the case of courts, its the officer’s job to prove three or so things to the judge, that you’re guilty…such as, was there any other traffic in the vicinity. Were you a danger to anyone at the moment? Were you in a residential or industrial area? Very important facts which can help you or hurt you.

You have rights. Know them! Most people just go ahead and plead guilty and pay the fines without ever really knowing their rights. The courts depend on their constiuents’ laziness.

Wow, was he really drooling? Such low standards in Chatham County!

haha, good advice, isaac. I’ll remember that for next time.

i’m just going to pay the fine, thedeafguy. I mean, I know I was guilty and it wouldn’t be worth my time to try and get out of it. Now, when I call about the fine and if I find out it’s an outrageously high fine, then I would go in and try to get out of it. But if it’s less than 30 bucks, I’ll just pay.

No, Brett. He wasn’t really drooling. I just wanted to draw him like a jerkberry. He WAS bald and overweight though. You know, Chatham County’s finest!

That happened to me once. Got pulled over for a headlight. Turns out my license was suspended and I didn’t even know. I was later told that I missed a payment months ago, but no one decided to remind me. I had to leave my car in a church parking lot a mile from my house, because the doucher cop wouldn’t let me drive for that extra mile to my house. Ended up wasting a free tow from Geico, too.

just so you know…every time you pay any fine, it goes on your record…eventually you rack up enough, your insurance goes up….think about it. GOOD LUCK!
