inkdick: november 27 2008 first thanksgiving on my own
So it was my first Thanksgiving Day while living on my own, and it went ok, all things considering. Josh and Brett came over because Amy and I didn’t want to cook food for just two.
At 3AM today Amy woke me up and asked if I put the turkey in the fridge. I told her that I had put it in the freezer, because it said on the bag “keep frozen.” Well, apparently, this was wrong and you are supposed to THAW out the bird well in advance. To my credit, I didn’t know as I have NEVER cooked a turkey before in my life. That was always my father’s job. So I put it in the firdge and then later in the morning I put it in the sink to speed up the thaw. Long story short, the bird was still half frozen when it was time to put it in the oven. I was scared I would kill everyone with food poisoning this Turkey Day.
But it all came out ok and no one died.
I also made some awesome pumpkin bread that was very pumpkin-y and went great with butter on top. I want to make more bread in the future.
Amy was amazing and made many yummy dishes. One dish was her bacon-wrapped honey mustard green beans. They were fucking amazing. Go to her new cooking/baking blog AmyBITES to read about all the yummy things she makes and I am lucky enough to get to eat.
Over all, it was a good turkey day. Except the part where I had to put my hand up a turkey’s asshole. But alas.
