inkdick: december 27 2008 the pacific northwest calls
We went to see The National Museum of the American Indian. It is my favorite of the Smithsonian Museums. And their food is fucking GREAT! Seriosuly, if you are visiting D.C. you need to stop there. Even if just for lunch.
I’ve always been attracted to the Pacific Northwest tribes of Native Americans. I just love their art and view on life. And the country up that way looks beautiful. Another reason to consider Portland in my future plans.

I can’t recall which group it is, but there’s some Pacific Northwest Indian tribe/nation that has one of the most awesome views on hierarchy and egalitarianism I’ve ever heard of, although I wouldn’t want to live in a society where it’s the norm.
Basically they believe that it is absolutely impossible for anyone to be equal, that there is a totally hierarchy from the very best person to the shittiest one. Two people might disagree about which is above the other, but they’ll always agree that they can’t be on the same level. Pretty interesting, I think! And yeah, I’ve always thought the art style of a lot of the Pacific Northwest nations was really really cool! When I was younger I wanted to carve totem poles for a living, haha.

I can definitely see you loving it in Portland. It’s one of those cities that really cater to bicyclists. I have a cousin who lives up there now and she loves it.

Being a Pacific Northwester I must say it is indeed the place to live. Though totally Portland is the place to be
