inkdick: january 12 2009 money out the vents
The November/December natural gas bill was fucking outrageous! The bill before was like 70 something bucks and then it shot up to over $230! Thankfully the bill I got in the mail yesterday was around $100 so we got some control over our gas use, but still. That $230 bill has made me super paranoid about utilities, and since it’s the cold months in Savannah I’m super paranoid about the gas. Every time the heat is on I literally see money being burned. I’d like to think that if I had a job I wouldn’t be such a tightwad, but I know myself and I know that if I had a job I would still cut corners wherever I could on utilities. Some call it cheap, I call it thrifty.
Amy and I already have an electric space heater in our room, Sabrina has one already I think, and Andy is getting one tomorrow I think. So hopefully we won’t be using much gas to heat the house in the near future.

We had a similar problem. Make sure you have new filters in your vents, and you might want to check on the insulation in your attic. That’ll make or break your power/gas bill.

Yeah, your landlord shoulda paid half that utility bill. Sounds like your insulation has seen better days. Shoddy windows will make a big difference too. Space heaters are the bees knees, though. Sometimes I have to turn ours off cause it actually makes things too hot!
