inkdick: january 18 2009 meet moxie

So on a whim Amy and I got a hamster. Technically a Russian dwarf hamster, which are a little bit smaller and faster than regular hamsters. We’ve both wanted a hamster at some point in our lives when we were each kids. I myself wanted one when I was in the 5th grade. I even did all the research and calculations at different pet stores around the McMurray, PA area to see how much it would cost, but ultimately it never happened.

After hours of trying to come up with a name Amy said something like, “That hamster’s got a lot of moxie!” due to the fact she LOVES to run around in her wheel and has so much energy. The name stuck. So there you go. Here is a picture of the little bugger. Moxie the Hamster.

moxie the hamster

She is super cute, no?

We got her this cage, and she loves the shit out of it! She runs and runs in that wheel. Can’t get enough of it. We are planning to expand this sucker with some more tubes and add-ons in the future. I admit, that was the REAL reason I wanted a hamster in the first place when I was a kid.

I have to admit, it’s a little crazy that we got a hamster the same day we brought up the idea of myabe getting a hamster. But we think it was the right thing to do.

Thats cool! My sister has had a couple hamsters in her life, and one thing we’ve learned if that an ambitious hamster can break outta the plastic cages……she managed to get a cheap aquarium tank and keeps hers in it…

Super cute though, dude! Great name too…

Maybe the reason your parents talked you out of a hamster in 5th grade is because you had two precious cats who may have mistaken a hamster for a larger mouse? But, I congratulate you both on Moxie and I must say she is very cute.

Be warned, I had a russian dwarf hamster before, if you don’t handle them often, they tend to get vicious and mean ( this also happens just as they get older) also, they love to chew right through those plastic tubes and you wont even notice until you look in one day and go ” Huh.. where is…” and then you hear the skritching in the walls.
Be careful. Also, its adorable to watch them eat baby carrots, or if you fill your hand with sun flower seeds they fill their little pouches.

My sister had a hamster once. It didn’t have a name though. Stupid thing was mean, you couldn’t even give it food unless it was asleep. And it killed itself, too. Cage was broken, lifted up the top and fell off her desk onto a book about dogs.

Careful! As one of your readers, I gotta warn you about something…

Check the little pipes that the hamster crawls through, one of mine (I had three before) got stuck in one and died of starvation (its very hard to keep track of three hamsters when you have minature caves in the cage and stuff )

I also have a Russian dwarf hamster, and if I don’t play with it once or twice a day (put it in its ball cage thing, feed it while its on my hand, ECT) it gets REALLY pissed off. How can a hamster get angry, I mean like what is it gonna do to you? Well i now have a scar from it.

    Good luck with it!
