inkdick: january 19 2009 one day ’til obama
Every year for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Savannah has a parade. And it’s a weird parade. That’s probably a polite way of putting it. All it is is vans and buses going down MLK Jr. Blvd. with cardboard cutout portraits of MLK himself, the same cutouts you used to see in elementary school during Black History Month, taped on to their sides. And under these vans and buses they tape tinsel. Sometimes they have local “celebrities” walk along the vans and buses. And there might be a marching band or two in there just to mix it up. And they televise this all on the local stations like it’s the biggest parade to ever happen on the face of the Earth. I watched it two years ago and it was just so bizarre. And tacky. Surely the city of Savannah could come up with a more classy way to honor the awesome dude who is MLK. But hey, it’s Savannah. That is how they roll, I guess. Tacky and no class.
Well, this year I assume the focus was also on Obama, as he IS being inaugurated tomorrow. Rightfully so the focus should be on him on such a day. On this van behind us was the same old MLK portrait they use every year taped to the front, but right next to it was a similar portrait of Obama.
Tomorrow, we will have a new President! Obama will be our president! Eight years of shit are coming to an end (finally), and the healing and change can begin (hopefully). I am super excited and look forward to the future.

My hope is that what President Obama stated in his Inaugural Address will occur. Remember, he is only 1/3rd of the Federal Government; albeit, a very important part. Instead of taking two to tango in the world of Federal Government it takes three. A very well though out plan by our Founding Fathers (hopefully, influenced by their wives)

No its too logical to have been influenced by wives.. HA kidding! And I am stoked for the change, the real question is…will people work for the change or do they just want to sit back and have it happen around them. If it happens around them, the country is doomed.

I think after 8 years of Cheney, the executive is actually like 3/4ths of the federal government?

I like what he stands for and glad we have a chance for reform, but lets not loos focus, we know who he is and all that comes with him being Chief, now lets see if he can push his agenda and get done what he says he is going too. Then and only Then will we know how good he will be
