inkdick: january 20 2009 obama in charge
So after more than two months of waiting, Obama is FINALLY president! The royal fuck ups that are Bush & Co. are FINALLY gone after eight long and horrible years.
Now, I know Obama getting into office is not like flicking a light switch. It’s not like we are going to wake up tomorrow and the economy will suddenly be better, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and against terror will suddenly be over, and the country will suddenly be good again. It is dumb to think that. Change is not instant. Obama has an uphill battle ahead of him. WE have an uphill battle ahead of us, as we have to be part of the change that happens. We can’t rely on just one man to cause all the change for us. It is going to take time, but with Obama now in office, I think we can get there. Together.
It’s nice to feel optimistic about the future for once.
Oh, and Obama is soooooooo going to get laid tonight. I mean, if your spouse becomes president, you are sort of obligated to sleep with them that night, no?

We watched the inauguration down in Tassie (this is MAJOR international news) and it brought tears to my eyes. It’s so nice to know how much support Obama has from the rest of the world, too!

Good comment about not expecting instant change. I hope that the citizen reaction remains as this is what democracy is about . . . not the few. All of us must participate in the government or a least read the news, both national and international.

While I don’t envy Obama’s current situation right now, his first few moves in office have made me all the more hopeful that we’ve finally stopped circling the drain and we’re starting to climb back up to a country with respect for itself and from others.
My only worry is the power Obama wields is enormous. The Bush administration got away with A LOT that now, I’m sure, they’ll never be tried for. I really hope Congress gets their real legislative power back, or Obama is really the incorruptable guy he’s made out to be.
Toast to a new country and community!
PS Was I the only one who got the “Dr. Strangelove” vibe when Dick Cheney was wheeled out of the White House Tuesday?

I really LOVE your sour puss Bush in the corner of the second panel.
