inkdick: january 30 2009 frustrating printing
I usually NEVER print in Norris, but Brett was my ride and Chris Schweizer was there visiting from Atlanta (buy his graphic novel Crogan’s Vengeance if you can, it is very good). Usually I print at SCAD’s library. Better printers, they actually print INDD files, and just a better atmosphere for printing in my opinion.
It really gets my goat that I have InDesign CS4 on my home computer and thus can’t print on SCAD’s computers until they upgrade. Question for those of you good with computers out there: Is it possible to save a INDD file in CS4 that could be opened in CS3? Anyone know? I remember that CS2 allowed you to save as past versions of InDesign, but I don’t see that option for CS4. I’m not the best with computers.
As a result of all of this, I didn’t get Inkdick #5 printed fully like I wanted. I’ll have to go back and finish printing some other time.
Printing minicomics should be a JOY not a chore!

I know you can save cs4 Illustrator files as cs3 and lower. You should be able to do the same in InDesign. In theory, anyway.

I still do my layouts caveman style, literally cutting and pasting the pages together.

Yeah, if you go to file > export in InDesign you can save your INDD file as a PDF, right? Weeeellllll, if you click on the drop-down box where it says “Export as PDF”, or whatever, you can choose InDesign Interchange File, or .inx That should do the trick. LAYIN’ THE TEACHIN’ DOWN.
