inkdick: february 07 2009 put on your 3D glasses now

So we went to go see Coraline. With my current budget, I am limiting myself to one movie a month so this was my February movie. I think I chose very well. Luckily we went to the matinee, or else it would have cost $12.50 instead of the 10 it cost me with the stupid service charge of the 3D glasses. If 3D is ever going to take off in movies they have to get rid of that charge, as not many people are going to want to spend almost thirteen bucks to see a movie. We ARE in a recession here after all, people!

The 3D glasses actually worked. I was worried, since I got a headache from the minute an a half of “3D” commercial on the Super Bowl last week. So what was an hour and a half going to do to me? But it worked, very well. And it actually fit the story and looked fantastic.

The movie itself was beyond amazing. I hope this does gangbusters in the box office and in DVD sales, so they bring back stop motion animation. I’m done with every animated movie being CGI. I think the world could use more stop motion animation.

But go see Coraline in a 3D theater. The extra two bucks is actually worth it.

i assumed the 3d would be good, since nightmare before christmas was so good in 3d. and this time it was actually made to be 3d in the first place!

I can’t even remember the last movie I saw in 3-D. I think something at Disney World/Universal Studios? Like… when I was 10 or 11? Wow… so long ago!!

You sold me, I am going to see Coraline in 3D. Hope they give Senior citizens the glasses for free. Then again, us old people might be charged even more for Senior citizen- made 3D glasses. Afterall, even the movie theaters are in a recession. Aren’t we all, though!

The 3-D was really great, and the stop-motion was the most fluid and lifelike I’ve ever seen. I was surprised how real the characters felt given how weird the designs were. Selick said he was going for a 50s children’s storybook feel, which it has in spades.

INTERESTING FOOTNOTE: if you think of the movie as a drug-use analogy it totally works. “Button eyes = drugs!”

I already know what your March movie is… hehe.

I hope this isn’t, like, Nightmare Before Christmas 3D because it wasn’t 3D as so much 2D popped out like those little puffy stickers kids collected on their lunchboxes.

Though I hear the book is creepier, I still really want to see this movie.
