inkdick: february 10 2009 angry at some pots
This comic is not meant to put one of my roommates on blast, it’s more about how I get angry over things like this.
But I can’t help getting angry over things like this, as little as it may seem. I am very OCD about things and I need certain things to be in a certain order. One of those things is stuff in the kitchen. Also a majority of the pots, plates, bowls, utensils, and cups in the kitchen are mine, I purchased them, so it’s hard not to take it personally when my stuff gets misused like this. I know the offender(s) don’t mean it personally, but because the things are mine it’s really hard not to take it that way. We also made a rule when we moved in here that “we are all adults, so when you use something you wash it right away.” I’ve washed other people’s dishes more times than I should have, so that is a little aggravating. Ok, I’m going to stop going on about this before I make myself angry again.
Living with roommates is tough sometimes. But you have to do what you have to do for cheaper rent. And I’m sure I do things that get under their skins sometimes without knowing it.
I did a comic like this one a month or so ago, so sorry for that. But hey, sometimes life is just repetitive that way.

This situation still happens to me, but since it’s just me and my wife now (and no other roommates), I find that the outcome is more just a defeated sigh, a search around the apartment for dirty dishes, and then a scrubbing session. Though sometimes I still want to scream.
The perpetual feeling of dish washing led me to make this comic.

This reminds me of Bailey’s ex-roommates… Plates of discarded ketchup, dirty cups strewn throughout the house and McDonalds trash all over the place.
Made my skin crawl and enraged me!

Be happy it’s winter. Things only get worse in the summer. Oh God the insects . . . I still have nightmares.
We found someone had been stirring in our pots with forks or metal utensils, thus scraping off the non-stick liner. It was maddening.

We have a dish washing schedule in our apartment,, so everybody takes turns and the kitchen gets cleaned everyday (very neccessary for four people). Every once in a while someone misses a day, but usually it’s alright and keeps anyone from feeling like they are doing all the work. Also I own the majority of the dishes and about 90% of the pots and cooking utensils, so one of the first things I did when my roommates moved in was have a discussion on the proper use and care of them. I’ve already had a few pans that had a lifetime guarantee be almost completely ruined by careless roommates.

I read someplace recently, that TEFLON IS a toxic substance: It’s fine if the surface is not broken, but as soon as there is a tear, teflon coated utensils are no longer safe to use… http://www.lawsuitsearch.com/toxic-products/teflon.aspx

I just love it when people shade their speech bubbles. It’s a small thing to get excited about, but it thrills me!

Chris, if you told any one else that (aka a “normal person”) they would think you are stupid or insane. But as a fellow cartoonist, I too share the same excitement over little things in comics like that. And yes, shading in speech bubbles is SUPER AWESOME! I wish more people would play around with their speech bubbles as such.
