inkdick: february 16 2009 i got a job
I’ve been waiting seven and a half months to draw that last panel. Yay!
A HUGE thanks to Melanie for helping me get the job. She rocks!
So it will be nice to get some money coming in again. I mean, it’s not a lot, it is a retail job after all, but it’s a hell of a lot better than the zero bucks I’ve been pulling in since June. And with this economy the way it is I’m lucky just to have a job, any job. So for the time being I’ll be selling peanuts to old lady tourists on River Street. I’m sure that will make for some good comics.
I admit, it’s a little bit disheartening to be working a part-time job selling peanuts after spending over four years in art school, but that is how the world works. Or rather how the comic industry works. I think that out of all my friends who graduated last year, only a small handful of them have creative jobs and only one or two of them in actual comics. The rest of us are still making comics, we just have to have the day-job to pay the bills. Oh, how I look forward to the day that comics become my full-time day-job. Someday… But for the time being, I’m making the most of my current situation. And it is sort of nice having a job again, even if it’s not my dream job. I’ll feel like I’m accomplishing something again and it’ll give me the drive to get better at comics. I seem to manage my time better when I have a job, so that will be very welcome.
Anyways, thanks to everyone who’s been supportive/putting up with me while I was unemployed.

Congrats. You deserve better but every job does provide a new perspective. That’s what I tell myself while I do the wonderful tasks given to by the gracious employers who are kind enough to accept my petty service and pay for it by the hour…
