inkdick: february 24 2009 zen pricing and cut hands

I’m sorry in advance for all the strips about working that I’m sure I’ll be doing. But hey, it’s a part of my life and this comic is about my life, so, yeah…

For some reason I find it very zen and relaxing to price things. I get into a trance. And I like playing with the pricing gun.

But I don’t like getting my hands cut up by the cardboard boxes. My hands got so dry that at some points around where the nail meets skin it just cracked open a little and started bleeding.

Teehee, you are wearing an apron! I did not know that you had to wear one. You look quite domestic.

Hehe, I love how you say it’s ZEN when the noise of the pricer is KA-CHUNK!

I always loved pricing - I find it very “zen,” too. I would always volunteer to work in the stock room and price stuff - it was the only time I wasn’t being badgered by crazy customers and co-workers and I could actually let my mind wander a little bit. I’m glad I’m not the only one :)

Just wait until you get a REAL box cut. They will slice you RIGHT OPEN.

it’s true! once you get into a rhythm you kinda zone out, and the ka-chunk of the price gun is just a steady beat in the background.

Hand lotion and fingerless gloves are the best thing ever for long days of opening boxes and pricing.

Hand lotion really helps. Get a nice, cheap one. Use it everyday, perhaps twice per day. And gloves are great, indeed. Feel free to use a cutter too if that’s allowed.

ditto on the gloves. if you need ones that fit snuggly and give you good grip, then go to the Samson store in town, its out near the little caesars. they have these thin knit gloves that are coated in silicon, theyre really slick and work great, but they cost 10 bucks a pair i think. either way i swear by them for leisure use.

Oh the joys of retail… Cutting down boxes is also a great zen activity, even thoygh you do have to stand by the dumpster.

Paper is killer on the hands. I used to work making lots of photo copies and assembling press kits and the like. My cuticles were always bleeding. My hands were so dry. Paper just sucks the moisture right out.

I use this Renew hand lotion by Melaleuca. And… honestly… it’s the best stuff I’ve ever used for dry skin. Bag Balm before bed is also good, as is this stuff called Melem. Be sure to massage extra into your cuticles, whatever lotion you use.

That hand looks crazy man. 3-finger hands creep me out, especially in close-up. This reminds me of a job I had, stapling big cardboard boxes. I managed to staple my sleeve. :D Ah, good times, good times.
