inkdick: february 26 2009 vote republican (don’t actually)
I think I witnessed the Republicans brilliant new plan to beat the Democrats at getting the youth vote: Yelling out of their confederate flag covered trucks at college aged kids. Yeah, that is going to work a whole lot better than, you know, the internet and holding ideals that are more in line with the ideals of today’s youth.
Yelling at me from your racist truck (unless you are a Civil War reenactor, I consider confederate flags to be racist) is NOT going to make me go, “Oh, yes, you are so right! I will totally reverse my political ideologies and vote Republican from now on! Thanks!” If anything you yelling at me pushed me farther to the left.

The confederate flag isn’t a racist symbol. Not where I’m from (which is all over the southern US.) Most people that I’ve met who have it are NOT racist and are far from it. It’s pride not prejudice. History not hate.

Well, a lot of people that I have talked to about it, those people ranging from all over the country including the South, consider it to be a racist symbol. I’m sure not every single person who owns this flag is racist, but that doesn’t change the fact that a portion of the population in this country views it as being a racist symbol. Keep in mind, a lot of that history involves slavery and discrimination and such. That is a history that not a lot of people like nor do they want to celebrate it. That is my perception of it anyways.
