inkdick: march 07 2009 makin’ me sick
I have ALWAYS hated tourists since I’ve lived in Savannah. That hatred has only grown since starting my job, where the only customers are tourists. I seriously almost became physically ill watching them gorge themselves on the free samples we put out. Now, I can understand homeless people and poor college kids/recent grads coming in to get some free food (I did it myself a few times as a college kid). You have to do what you have to do when you are down on your luck and have no real money coming in. But these are tourists who can afford to lay down 15 bucks for a small tin of nuts. And these people are all fat and should not be shoving salty and chocolate covered nuts down their throats. One of my co-workers says that she lost 15 pounds while working there because she got so sick of watching the tourists all stuff their faces. I believe it!

I’d kind of be scared to be making comics like this one… recently in Toledo one of the mayor’s top aides got in some deep doodoo when some of his private myspace blog entries about his job got leaked to a local political blog.
On the other hand, I like reading strips where you’re pissed off about stuff

I’m so glad you got this job. The potential well of hatred is endless.
Please tell me you work St. Patty’s day.

I hate tourists with an unending hatred that burns to my innermost part of my soul to rage with the power of 1000 angry suns!

sometimes you seem a little bitter…just be careful your bosses don’t find this site!

When I started this comic I made a promise to myself to not censor myself. My job is now a very big part of my life, both the good parts about it and the bad parts about it. Now, it is not like I’m going up to my boss and saying “Hey, look at my comic! Please fire me!” I’m not that dumb. But at the same time, I have to be true to myself and my life.
Yeah, Brett. I work on St. Patrick’s Day and it’s really not cool to rub it in. Thanks a bunch.

Hey bud, I feel you pain, I’m working 3-10 in the goddamned cafe on St. Patty’s day too. We are brothers in sobriety… until we get off work.

…..well….
The HATEFULL tourists keep part of the economy going…
Let’s not “bite the hand that feeds us”.

Holy crap, I read this comic and instantly thought to myself, “That’s just like when I worked at the Savannah Candy Kitchen during art school” and lo and behold, you have some Savannah Tourist experience as well. I feel your pain, dude.

I have a book to lend you, I forgot to bring it in today, but I’ll try to remember next time. It doesn’t deal with samples, but it covers pretty much every other aspect of working retail. It has a lot of coping mechanisms in it, and made me realize that 9 times out of 10, mall employees still have it worse than us. Thought neither is as bad as when I worked at Michaels.

Melanie speaks the truth. Only hear bad shit about the kids who work in the malls. I think at tourists destination, people are a little subdued by the “uniqueness” of it all, and are more respectful and less willing to throw a tantrum about something they can get anywhere else.
Love the fat tourist drawing stuffing its face!
