inkdick: march 22 2009 return to jacksonville

Apparently Amy and I have bad luck with Macs. She ordered one of the new iMacs, it came in a few days ago, and after owning it for only a day and a half it won’t turn on! At all! She called Apple and they said she’d have to mail it back in to get it fixed or get a replacement. Not wanting to wait a week or two for all the shipping, Amy and I drove down to the Apple Store in Jacksonville (a place I vowed never to return to again). The people at the store on the phone made it sound like they’d be able to do something.

Well, a two hour drive later, they tell us they really can’t do anything. Amy ordered it online so the store can’t replace it there because online sales and store sales can’t be intermixed and have to go through separate channels or something like that. They could have tried to open it up and fix it, but that would take a few days and they would not ship it back to us, so it would mean ANOTHER four hour round trip just to pick it back up.

So we drove four hours for nothing. Well, it was worth a try. Looks like we’ll have to send her computer back in and hope for the best. What is it with us and our luck with Macs? Seriously!

Oh, and for those of you waiting for iDonate art from me still, thank you so much for being super patient and not hating my guts. I’m (very, very slowly) working on them. My goal is to get another batch done before Fluke two weeks from now.

I’m sorry you have such bad experiences in the murder capital I call home. Next time you’re forced down to this part of town let me know and I’ll do my best to bring a pleasant Jacksonville memory your way.

You know there is a certified Apple repair store in Savannah, right? AIS may not have ‘Apple’ in their name, but they’ll do all the repairs on Apple warranties, and it’s much easier way to find out if you do need to send it in for sure. They did a pretty good job fixing Matthew’s laptop, and they were really helpful with me getting the correct cords for my Mac Mini.

Also, since they are independent from Apple, they don’t care where you bought your computer.

man, what a horrible business practice. i hate it when companies screw with their customers like that. it shouldn’t matter where she bought it, if she bought it from apple they should help her no problem.

That sucks! I ordered my new Macbook online and got some stuff fixed in the apple store here in Minneapolis; it’s weird that the policies are different in Georgia.

Melanie: The reason we didn’t try going to an Apple repair store is because they said my warranty with Apple would be void if anyone but Apple touched it. Also, since it was literally two days old, it was clearly just a defective computer and it would be wise to just get a completely new one.

hey pranas, if you dont wish to take it to that place in sav, you can always call apple. I sent mine in when I damaged the keyboard foolishly but apple was real nice about it.

They sent me a box, i pack it in, i sent it out and it came back within a week. It’s actually a lot faster than I thought it’d be. Give them a call again and see if you can still get it done with them.
