inkdick: april 04 2009 fluke 2009
Ah, Fluke, how I love it! I’ve been going every year since 2006 and I will continue to go every year that I still live in Georgia or on the east coast. Hell, if I do head out west to Portland, I’ll still try to make it every few years or so. To me, Fluke is very magical and significant in my growth as a comic artist (the term ‘ghost car’, as in Ghost Car Press, originated from my first Fluke). There is just something about the whole thing that re-fuels me artistically.
Most years at Fluke, I had zero confidence. I mean, who’d buy my stupid shit, right? But this year, I just felt like I actually belonged. I’m not where I want to be in comics yet, but I feel like I’m a hell of a lot closer than I’ve been in years past. I feel like I’m a half-step away from making something of myself, I just gotta keep on going. It really helped that strangers came up to my table and said “You do inkdick, right?” That was a trip! I almost felt famous!
But damn. Fluke. I had a fucking blast like always.

Wow, Fluke sounds INCREDIBLE!!! It kinda makes me wish I were still living in Tennessee so I could’ve gone down for it.
