inkdick: may 08 2009 editor’s day 2009
I got a portfolio review with the one and only Chris Duffy of Nickelodeon Magazine. Nick Mag has a wonderful comic section which serves as a who’s who of current indie cartoonists. So to have the editor of said comic section tell you that you are good, well, it makes you feel like you’ve got a shot at being great someday.
NOTE: I am behind on posting these comics, and when I do post them late like this I still try to write the blog that goes with it as if I wrote it during the day of the comic. I need to break with that here though. I’m posting this comic on June 7th, four days after the very sad announcement that Nick Mag is shutting down for good. Due to my being behind and playing catch up on my comics, me posting this comic unfortunately corrusponded with the announement of Nick Mag’s folding. I’m sure I’ll be doing my comic on the 3rd about the announcement, so get ready for a long blog entry about it then. Blerg. Just…blerg.

yeah, this comic loses a lot of the excitement after that. obviously having chris duffy saying your work is good is still awesome, but yeah… sad.

To have an editor say your work is good . . . is great, no matter if the magazine is folding. He was an editor of a magazine and editors don’t tend to forget talent when they see it. Try to keep in touch with him. Magazines unfortunately come and go. Means there is another like type magazine in the horizon.
