I used to feel akward, but then I started staying with them and watching, asking questions, engaging in conversation: AMAZING how MUCH I learned about home repairs and simple "tricks of the trade". Repairmen of all sorts actually "love" to talk about their work, especially when I am genuinely interested in what they are doing. AND they appreciate, that I appreciate good work! :-) Right on the MARK!

If I didn't have cats, I'd just try to not be there when the repair people come, but I worry about them running out of the apartment. Usually I hover around, and even ask to help, because it just seems rude to go play on my computer or something. However, I'm pretty sure that doing that bothers them more. I know that I'd probably rather be left alone while fixing a sink. Still, acting on common sense has never been one of my strengths. I always have that same problem.
