Well, technically you might not be an adult yet, as a real adult would have to futz around for about twenty minutes before the wiper blade would agree to go ‘click’.
On the other hand, you’re not a kid, as a kid would say ‘Screw it, I’ll just stick my head out the window when it rains.’
Maybe you’re in a transitional stage…

HA! I just did that for the first time in my life with our car. I remember thinking, “my dad would be so proud” as I was using an X-acto knife to cut the blades to size.

Oh, man… this one hit close to home. I recently spent a Sunday morning installing a dishwasher and I had a similar thought. It’s funny how those mundane little tasks make you feel like a grown-up, sorta: thespinadoo.blogspot.com/2010/01/dont-cut-green-wire.html

The first time I ever did that, the new wipers were as bad as (if not worse than) the old ones. I was displeased.
