I worked in a video rental place called Movie Gallery years ago. We rented Porn. I once had to stop an Older Gentleman from Pleasuring himself in the back room. Not a ton of fun. (but a little, I mean come on, he thought it’d be cool to just whip it out and get a head start.) I finally offered him a free rental of his choice if he just zipped up and got out. Good times…
I hope you’re working at a place with the “squeaky hinges” porn area and not a place that sells nothing but porn, but regardless I get the sense you’ve found greener pastures since April. I have my fingers crossed!
I want to clarify, I don’t have a problem with porn or selling porn. Porn is great actually (as long as it stars consenting adults)! I just hated the type of creepy old men customers that the store would attract. All the cool porn buyers are getting their stuff online now, I guess.
@Ethel I’m pretty sure it’s illegal here in the US too, but it would be too much of a hassle to take legal action.

@KatanaGirl Yeah, it’s all in a back room. Comics and non-porn movies are sold in the front/main part of the store.
9 hours without a break is way illegal. you are entitled to a full hour lunch and 2 15-min breaks. imagine how different your day could be with an extra 1.5 hours to chill out and get out of there!
you don’t have to threaten legal action. just let your boss know you know your rights, and then take your break. if you have to close the shop down for an hour while you go get lunch, then whatever.
it would be illegal for your boss to fire you for taking your break, too.
it is illegal to work that kind of day without breaks, but it might be in his contract of hire (like mine) that because you only work when there are people around, anytime you are alone in the store, or not catering to customers counts as an unofficial break.
yeeeeaaah…. that ever-present and slightly menacing back room. :) what always irked me was that I could find issues 1 and 3 of something up at the montgomery crossroad store, then search around and end up finding issue 2 on liberty. very odd method of organization. :P
Heh, we used to refer to the other store as “Comics & Porn” before they removed the back room. I’ve also heard a funny story about some “home-made” selections in that back room…
