Two years and some changes…

May 17th, 2010

I FINALLY caught up to the two year mark, and now that I’ve reached that point there are some changes coming. Potentially huge changes.

It’s no secret that I’ve been behind on these comics for most of the last year and I’m not really catching up. I mean, I’ve finally reached the two year anniversary of inkdick almost two full months after the fact. That’s not good. Not good at all.

inkdick will no longer be updating everyday.

I’ve been so set-in-my-ways of catching up and making sure I have a comic for every single day that I missed, but I think I’m the only one who really cares about that. And by being the only one who cares about that I’m exhausting myself and putting aside other bigger projects. I asked myself, would the world really end if I skipped days because either something else came up, I didn’t have time, or I just wasn’t feeling it? No. The world would go on, same as it always has.

So as of now inkdick will update on a “whenever schedule”. Some weeks you might get a comic everyday, some weeks you might only get one or two.

Yeah, this may seem like it stinks but trust me, this is a very good thing in the long run. There are so many other projects that I want/need to work on, and some of those could potentially be PAYING projects. I have only so many hours in a day to work on comics, and it’s dumb of me to spend almost ALL of that time on a comic that is no longer the main priority. Now I still like doing inkdick, people still like reading it (I hope), and I want it to keep it going in some fashion but not have it get in the way of future projects, so I think this is a fair solution for everyone. You still get some comics and I get to try out new and exciting things and grow as an artist.

Now if inkdick somehow became my bread and butter and that’s what was making me money, I’d come back to seven days a week every week. Or if I could swing it and become a well-paid full-time cartoonist and treated inkdick like a morning warm-up sketch, I’d come back to seven days a week every week. But until one of those things happens, this is how it’s going to be. Who knows, maybe I’ll be able to get back on top of things, manage my time better, and just organically slip back into doing these everyday again. Hey, it could happen.

Whatever does happen in the future and whatever does happen with this comic, don’t worry! I’m working on a few other projects and I think you are going to love those as much as you love inkdick, if not more!

So onward and upward, dear readers, to the future!

Oh and also, thank you all for two great years. I would have given up a long time ago if it wasn’t for all your support and awesomeness.

I’m glad that you’ve got other PAYING projects, that’s wonderful!!! I’m gonna keep checking back even if inkdick isn’t every day. I DO love reading it, and I’m glad you’re not stopping it completely. good luck with all your other projects! :D

i think it’s fair to say that inkdick has been on a “whenever” updating schedule for a while now, it’s just that you were trying to do a comic about every day. i’m glad you’re not quitting the comic altogether, and i’m sure making the “whenever” schedule official will greatly help with stress and sanity. looking forward to seeing new other projects from you, and good luck with paying work!

Yeah, I have to admit, reading Inkdick two months in the past was kind of weird at some points.
Anyway, good luck with your other projects, man! You’re going to be making mad money off your comics soon enough!

And if you want Inkdick to start bringing in some serious revenue, you should set up a stoooore…

Congrats for all you’ve accomplished. This started out as a school project and you’ve given it a life of its own, from an outsider’s perspective I think that is great and I can see you developing your talent. The strips are getting better over time. I’m a fan and I even passed on your blog to some other people because I like it so much. Just try not to kill yourself so much, don’t make promises to other people. Try to achieve your own goals; that means writing them down where nobody else can read them. Failure is good because you learn, but I think you fear others seeing you fail. Be the man you want to be and don’t let us fans control you. Cheers!

:’( Sad to see inkdick slow down, but thanks for everything up to this point. I enjoyed following your sequential art. Keep up the good work and good luck in other other projects!

I just looked at some of the first inkdicks and realized how much you have improved, it’s not to say those first ones were bad, but I feel like the cartoon likenesses you’re drawing now seem much more sophisticated. These characters all look like they belong in the same universe and yet they all resemble lots of real life folks, kind of like what the simpsons has done.

Hey, congrats on two years, nonetheless. We can deal with less comics. We still love you. <3
