june 17 2010 the kitchenaid mixer

Tried experimenting by inking today’s strip with a new Pentel Pocket Brush Pen that I picked up the other day. I think Sam Spina said a while ago that this is what he uses to ink his journal comics (I am very jealous of his incredible inking skills, by the way) so I thought I’d give the pen a try. I really like it, but I’m not confident in using it yet (finding it hard to get fine details with it due to my heavy handedness). Tomorrow we’ll go back to the old standard artist’s pens for these comics while I practice some more with this brush pen in my sketchbook. Maybe once I get more comfortable with it it’ll make a come back. Someday I’ll be good at inking, I swear it!

Also, Amy has been getting a LOT of use out of the mixer! Go read her adventures in cooking at amybites!

I use a pentel pocket brush pen, too! You are off to a great start just keep practicing! I’m still working on how to make it work best for me–it’s definitely impossible to use it like a pen, I basically find myself just using it like I use my paint brushes. Good luck, Pranas, looks great!

I like the old pen better. You’ve jumped the shark. XP

Anyone who brings happiness to and cooks for my son, I love. May you both enjoy the mixer; maybe this is a sign for you to start getting invovled with cooking, Pranas.

I’m sure Chris Schweizer used the Pentel Pen on the Crogan’s series too.
I’ve been trying to use it for the last couple of months, but i’ve been so used to using Fine liners, I’m finding the switch really tricky.

I was more shocked by the lack of beard, than the pocket brush!

P.S. who *doesn’t* love Amy more?

So, this pocket brush pen… how is it when you erase over it? Do they put good ink in those cartridges? Or does it all gray out horribly? That’s my question with stuff like that. Looks great on here, tho.

Thanks for the shout out man! I hated the pocket brush right when i got it and didn’t use it again for weeks, but now i absolutely love it! no more bringing jars of inks and a brushes to coffee shops and stuff anymore! And what do you mean when you say artists pens? like microns and stuff?
